Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the United Kingdom

The Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the United Kingdom, formerly known as the Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in London. The Chamber was established by British and Spanish merchants, manufacturers, and professionals with the aim of promoting economic and commercial relations between Spain and the United Kingdom, protecting the interests of its members, and, in particular, promoting Spanish exports to the United Kingdom in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce of Spain (or any ministry or official body that replaces this department).

4

Communication and Promotion

We give visibility to the initiatives and successes of our members through our social networks and fortnightly newsletter, which we distribute to more than 4000 contacts in the UK and Spain.

It is an attractive market due to several factors: its size (almost 70 million inhabitants), high per capita income, geographical proximity, having belonged to the EU for many years, and being the sixth largest economy in the world. It is an open country that allows foreign companies to do business there, competing on equal terms with local companies. The Chamber is a testament to this strength, with partners who are subsidiaries of Spanish companies established in the country, as well as British companies with interests in Spain. The UK is the second country in the world that receives the most Spanish direct investment. According to data from our Barometer -which covers Spanish investment in the UK, and which allows us to understand the true dimension of the impact that Spanish companies operating here have on the British economy- this investment generated 128,000 jobs in the UK (2021).

Opportunities

The country offers many opportunities and, moreover, both Spanish companies and products are highly appreciated by the locals. Spanish companies already have a strong presence in the financial, infrastructure and civil engineering, telecommunications, automotive and renewable energy sectors. The food sector is also very important, and we are gradually moving from being a supplier of low value-added products to being a supplier of gourmet and sophisticated products. In the short and medium term, investments are planned in the social security system, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, renewable energies, robotics applied to agriculture and water treatment.
